Incredibly useful little book. I definitely learned a lot from it.

This book surprised me with just how much information it packed in. From diet plans to exercises that work for each of the tips being presented.

The author clearly has done an incredible amount of research, which shows throughout. You will learn the exact steps you need to burn off that last bit of belly fat if you are already quite fit, or to get you to lose a large amount of weight if you're not.

The style was very clear and the book was well written. The author is engaging but doesn't waste your time with unnecessary distractions: he gives you the tips you need and explains their benefits clearly.

Before reading the book, a lot of the jargon was confusing to me, even though I had heard it all used before, but this book explains everything succinctly and doesn't make you feel like a fish out of water. The sections on carbohydrates (which are good and which to avoid) were particularly helpful, and the tips about some great superfoods let me know what to add to my grocery list.

I highly recommend this book - I haven't really been this impressed with a health and fitness book in a long time. If you want to know exactly what you should be doing to get the body and state of health that you want, this book will give you the facts.

Health and Fitness is a guide with great pointers to get you on the way to good health. Although I don't necessarily agree with all the all the pointers, there's lots of great information for you to get yourself set up for success! In particular I like the pointers on good carbs. So many people either avoid carbs or eat the wrong kinds! That statistics on women who sit more than 6 hours a day scared me and convinced me to finally be serious about staying fit and exercising.

Ok, so my father has diabetes so I decided to take matters into my own hands and start helping him lower his blood sugar once and for all. It turns out that there are many ways to lower blood sugar naturally. I learned that Cinnamon has antioxidants that help lower blood sugar. Who knew? Fish, nuts, and other easily obtainable foods can help lower blood sugar if used properly. This book provided 20 simple ways to help lower blood sugar. Please not that this is not a substitute for medical help but it sure helps when using day to day methods to lower and help maintain a proper blood sugar content. I recommend this book for information!

About the Author
Tina grew up in the metropolitan city of Des Moines, in the heart of the mid-west where people were people and your neighbors were your best friends. This is where her adventure began. A strong Catholic mother and a traditional as well as conservative father raised her with the cultural advantages of the 50's. This up bringing gave her a belief in values, self-worth and conviction in God. Having grown up with the Catholic Church as a strong influence on her life, Tina quickly learned the benefits of candle lighting to purpose as well as the importance in allowing tumultuous emotions from the past to be laid to rest. Tina's travels and extended quest throughout Europe gave her not only comparative cultural lifestyles to explore new and interesting religious experience to which she incorporated with that which she had as a child. Thus, allowing her passion for religious studies to take on a new dimension bringing together this new aspect of her learned knowledge - incorporating this with religious dogma and spirituality, lending to a viable semblance to her personality. Tina Ketch is a living-breathing example of the metaphysical concept of manifestation of desire. She lives what she believes and practices that which she preaches. Tina holds tight to the concept that life does not have to hurt and that we need not design life to be difficult. There is nothing on the market to compare. This book answered real life questions that I had been contemplating for years. These question being 'why me' and 'what if' and 'whose fault is it....' Small questions, and perhaps silly to most but I needed answers and I got'em here.

This is really helpful on stopping me from being so down on myself about my weight. The wonderful aspect is I am completely asleep and don't need to be awake to concentrate on the words or music.     This book is written in very simple and nice way. I just loved the way that author teaches how to be loving yourself in different aspects of life. In this book the author teaches the way what others think of you in none of your business. This book also realizes the value of happiness in your life.I love to read Self-help book, but Self-Love: The Key to Happiness is the best book I have ever read.     I have learned a lot from reading this book. I have been wanting to make my own body scrubs and masks for a very long time and now I have finally found a book that has great information on how to exactly do that! The author has put in different types of natural materials into the book that you will need to make your own natural body scrubs and masks, which was extremely helpful when I made my own. The recipes in this book are great! I tried the coffee grounds for oily skin and it has made my face feel wonderful without all the extra oil. This is a wonderful book and I highly recommend it!

    I must confess I am one of those people that has a bathroom full of lotions and potions; many of which deliver promises that typically do not come true and most products are abandoned after a short period of time only to gather dust in some deep ,dark corner of my bathroom closet!

    I try where I can to be natural but even the big name 'natural' companies deliver potions with a list of items I can barely pronounce! I do buy fresh masks now and then, and have a pantry full of things like coconut oil, oats and sugars that would lend well to natural products as well as save me money, but time, convenience and most pertinent, know how, send me back to those big names time and time again!

    This book was a great choice! As stated, this is for beginners, so these recipes are simple, easy, some are not new - you may have read them in beauty magazines in the past - but there are also some involved recipes that I have not seen before, yet conveniently enough, I have the ingredients sitting in my kitchen!

    It begins with a look at the beauty industry and creates a need for being natural, after all, our grandparents were probably not spending thousands on little jars of cream, yet look just fine! Not so long back I bought a scrub here on Amazon which arrived with a dirty big label right on top "contains ingredients known to cause cancer"!! It made me think twice and if more products arrived with said labels right on top, I would probably think twice before using them! It also prefaces itself as a beginners reference with ideas of where to find further ideas which was nice

    This book also goes beyond recipes with basic, yet common sense skin care advice, for face, body , eyes, feet; then is broken up in sections for different body areas together with recipes for each! The nice thing - there is no requirement to go out and spend a fortune on odd and hard to find ingredients - many you will have at home and this will save me dollars in the end! There is a section on getting going - when and how to use these recipes, and also a guide to essential oils as a bonus!

    Finally there is a VERY comprehensive guide to learning more with links to websites and blogs on natural health which was a nice touch!

    As a parent I think this will lend to a bunch of fun projects to do with the kids then some "spa" nights that are cheap, fun and not filled with chemicals! Great book!

    I have read Self-Aid cover-to-cover 3 times in the last month and continue to draw inspiration from it on a daily basis. The author has endured so many challenges in her life and despite that, has risen above the pain and despair because of her faith in herself and others. If anyone ever had the right to "throw in the towel", it would be Helen Woo. Instead she chose forgiveness and to let go of past hurts and find inspiration within her own life and the hope of a better tomorrow. Helen has crafted a book full of positive thoughts and quotes that inspire the reader to believe in themselves, embrace the beauty of life and the opportunities that lay before each of us and seize the day. The author continually reminds the reader that each of us has the power to reach our goals and to find true happiness by having self-worth and loving who we are as individuals. I urge anyone who has ever struggled with depression, lack of self-esteem or been a victim of abuse to read this book as it will most certainly make a positive impact on your life!

    About the Author
    Julia Loggins was born in Hollywood, CA in March of 1955, and began the study of holistic medicine by saving her own life, after a childhood of life-threatening illness and disease, including asthma, rheumatoid arthritis, bleeding ulcers and blood sugar issues. Ms. Loggins embraced the world of regenerative medicine and the understanding of stress and toxicity as the source of illness and disease. She embarked on a living foods diet, wheatgrass therapy, juice fasting and other forms of detoxification. She studied for two years at the Hippocrates Health Institute, then in Boston, with Dr. Ann Wigmore, Dr’s Brian and AnnaMarie Clement and Viktoras Kulvinskas. She completed the Health Educator’s Course there in 1982. She studied with psychiatrist Dr. Ernest Pecci, whose work is now being carried on at the Hoffman Institute in Northern California, exploring the mind-body connection and the understanding of how family patterns affect health and well being. In 1983, she became a certified colon therapist and opened a private practice in Santa Barbara, CA. Having been told by doctors that she would never have children, and after having four miscarriages, Ms. Loggins studied with Niravi Payne, a pioneer in the field of the mind/body connection to fertility. Following her study, she gave birth to two healthy children, now 17 and 21, and became certified in Ms. Payne’s method. Ms. Loggins wrote her first book, “Dare to Detoxify,” in 2012, the culmination of over three decades of work in the holistic medical field, with a specialty in detoxification, digestive and autoimmune disease. She has a private practice in Santa Barbara, California, and lectures and teaches nationally.     Finally--I am excited and motivated to do a cleanse!

    As my friends and I head north of age 55, none of us want to buy into the failing-health-energy-brainpower-is-inevitable mindset. And with It Takes Guts To Be Happy, maybe we won't have to.

    Julia Loggins puts us back in charge of our health by explaining what can and does go wrong in today's world of toxicity, GMOs and stress, what we can do for ourselves, and how our traditional doctor can be a valuable member of our holistic health team.

    Loggins writes candidly of her fight for survival during which she experienced the body's almost magical ability to heal when body, mind and spirit are all involved. That's what makes this guide especially therapeutic -- it's comprehensive and common sense.

    Loggins' 21-day cleanse is no walk in the park. But with her breezy and often hilarious writing style, she encourages, motivates and forgives our failures and humanity.

    A comprehensive sourcebook that saved my life!

    I loved this book! It's like no other health or diet book I've read. It's NOT a diet, which I love, because I've failed on diets -- and I succeeded on this easy-to-follow plan for energy and vitality, which is what I need most. I'm a super-busy, on-the-go professional, hardly ever at home, with very little time to take care of myself. I need a program that works instantly, and this one does! I dare anyone to try this program and not feel better in one week, like I did! My friends say I "sparkle," which believe me, no one has said in a long time. I have lost not just the weight but the puffiness around my eyes and everywhere else! I have learned things I never knew about my gut -- who knew there were more nerves there than anywhere else? No wonder I was suffering! Well, I'm not anymore!! I am on this program for life!

    I REALLY admire Julia's life story and her willingness to share the knowledge she has earned for the common good.

    This is the second book I've read written by Julia. "It Takes Guts To be Happy! is the best book I've read on detoxification, and why it's so critical to health and happiness. Julia Loggins' book is easy to read, entertaining and gives clear easy to follow directions for fixing health issues from low energy to digestive problems. Julia connects the dots in ways I'd never heard before, and in a way that made her program a no-brainier to integrate into my life. I feel better than I have in years...and I love the lightness of being most of all. Julia Loggins makes Happiness a priority, and no other health book I've read does that. That's what sets this book apart -- it's real and it works!

    Quick, understandable, and valuable information that goes beyond the thyroid

    Dr. Thompson has written a clear, concise book on the importance of iodine, not only for the thyroid, but for every cell in the body. He describes its important role in detoxifying halogens, especially bromine, and in the prevention of many "women's" issues related to breast, uterine, and ovarian health.

    There is also reference to his own rigorously developed transmucosal bioidentical hormone replacement therapy that promises to revolutionize HRT for women of all ages, even pre-menopause.

    This is a quick and easy read, and a great deal considering the value of the information presented.

    Once again, a print copy would probably be perferable as there is a graphic that is apparently not expandable and a chart that is unreadable in the kindle format.

    but maybe that's not such a great feat as It's not very big

    Caveat: I did not buy this book on Amazon.com. I got it at my health food store but I think the review is still valid as I've read it cover to cover...and it was a HUGE eye opener! Once again, I'm left feeling how too many things have gone down the wrong path in this country. don't want to spoil it for you but let me just say, that I finished it in two days reading it while as much as I had time for as I'm in the throes of a home remodel, but maybe that's not such a great feat as It's not very big. In fact, I think it's too small to be charging upwards of $10 for it. It's tremendously informative, though, and worth the money you'll spend. If you like to stay healthy, and/or you like good, useful information, you'll like it.

    A good pocket book telling how Iodine, and thereby Thyroid, determines our Health.

    Mostly I am using the word “pocket book” because it’s a light book which is easy to carry around and thereby for example bring to a doctor having the opinion that we don’t need Iodine. But even though it’s light in weight it’s heavy in the much good information which it contains.

    If we in Amazon want to look inside the book, nearly all of text sides we then can’t open on, but as a bit of a help, I here before the following writing can tell that it contains 16 pictures and 8 tablets, and most of the pictures just meant for putting “color” into the book.

    Among other I bought this book as I, while reading in Lynne Farrows book, “The Iodine Crisis”, then by Amazon discovered that this new book written by Robert Thompson had just come out for sale. I already knew his writings from his first book about Calcium, but this handy book about Iodine & Thyroid especially caught my interest as I and my wife sponsors a girl’s education, by which she next year will finish as being a nurse. When the girl was a young teenager she was diagnosed in having Hyperthyroidism (too high Thyroid function), and therefore to her this book will be very helpful. While I concerning Thyroid, besides owe many other but not so handy and easily read books.

    In the book we read that 90 % of people not are having the optimal amount of Iodine in their bodies. And if we then want to get an idea about if we are missing Iodine, and probably how much, then on the side 8 we gets 25 questions, as for example this one: “I have high blood pressure and high cholesterol”, and then depending on the number of plus to the questions we read where we probably are standing. But on the side 66 we are precise test, as we there read about the DIY Iodine Testing, used in practice until 50 years ago, and which Dr. Brownstein recommend. By this we on a clean forearm make a circle of bronze-orange Iodine solution. And then depending on how much the color has changed (disappeared) after respectively 8, 16 and 24 hours, we read the situation, compared to that if nothing has changed after 24 hours then it is optimum with Iodine in the body.

    The most perfect and technical Iodine measure now a day, which we read that the Drs. Abraham, Brownstein and Flechas highly recommend, consist in taking 50 mg of Iodine, and during the following 24 hours collect all urine. Then if the body is sufficient 45 mg (90%) of the Iodine will have got out by the urine. And then depending on how little Iodine in the urine read how bad the situation is.

    But actually we don’t have problem by taking too much Iodine. As Dr. Gabriel Cousens says: “Historically, as early as 1911, people normally took between 300-900 mg daily without incident”. And on the side 43 Dr. Abraham notes that Iodine has been taken for breast cancer as high as 6 grams (!) a day without negative effects! And besides we on the side 67 read that on Japan’s island of Okinawa people by diet daily are getting 80 to 200 mg of Iodine, and that there are more people over the age of 100 than anywhere else on Earth. And at another side we read that personally Thompson daily takes 50 mg.

    On the side 29, under: “Radioactive iodine treatment for hyperthyroidism”, Thompson tells that if we are diagnosed with hyperthyroidism, (too high Thyroid function), it is very likely that our doctor will want to use radioactive Iodine to block the runaway production of thyroid hormones. But Thompson warns us that this will destroy our Thyroid gland, and then among other resulting in for the rest of the life to be on Thyroid hormones drugs.

    And still concerning radioactive Iodine we for example on the 64 read about Potassium iodide tablets, which person living close to atomic reactors are having in reserve for if an accident should happen, then take to protect against Radioactive iodine. But as he then writes: “If your Iodine levels are correct, radioactive iodine will have minimal effect”.

    For the optimal health it is needed both that there to the Thyroid is delivered al the Iodine which the Thyroid wants, but also that the Thyroid is working correctly. And concerning the Thyroid we can be suffering in either having the problem Hypothyroidism (underactive Thyroid) or the Hyperthyroidism (overactive Thyroid). And among other we read that overweight can be the result of missing Iodine as especially the hormones Thyroid and Iodine controls the body weight.

    In the 9 side’s chapter “Iodine, Women and Breast Health”, we first read that the fibrocystic breast, the bumpy, lumpy breast with hardened areas, now nearly no longer is regarded as a disease as it is so common. But animal research has shown that when there were cut down in their Iodine then they developed fibrocystic breasts. And then we continue in reading about Iodine, Estrogens (3), Bromide, Fluor, and Xenoestrogens, and how the last 3 plus 2 of the Estrogens, besides that we since the 1970s, gets half as much Iodine, without doubt is the reason to double as much breast cancer now is occurring.

    Concerning the breast cancer we among other on the side 40 get some results, written in 1982, by Bernard Eskin, MD’, with his results from 40 years research, and among which we read: “Molecular iodine, like that found in the kelp and other forms of seaweed is the most effective form of the mineral for the treatment of all types of breast disease”. And besides on the side 67 we read that on Japan’s island of Okinawa people daily are getting 80 to 200 mg Iodine from their seafood, and that there the average of persons being more than 100 years old is the highest on Earth.

    In the chapter 9, “The Right Iodine” we among other on the side 69 have an overview showing “Food Source Of Iodine”, with for example at the bottom is showing that 1 Banana is giving 3 mcg, 2% daily needed, on the middle 1 large Egg giving 24 mcg, 16%, and on the top Seaweed, whole or sheet, 1 g, 16 - 2,984 mcg, 11% - 1,989 %. And to me the book especially is helpful to my searching after Iodine here in Thailand, as we on the side 68 we furthermore reads that the Potassium Iodide and the Sodium Iodide, forms of Iodine is best used by the Thyroid. Beside on the side 74, under “Author’s choice” we see a picture of the triple Iodine compound Tri-Iodine, Thyroid Care and Iodine Co-Factors.

    But for us living here in Thailand as the first problem it is that we are missing Iodine. I was suspect because of the many cases of breast caser, around here in Chiang Mai, since my wife was hit 4 years ago. When I went to Google for searching about Iodine in the soil in Thailand I easily there found cards, among other showing results from UNICEF, and telling that on the worst places pregnant woman even can be missing from 75 to 100 % Iodine. And beside I found a result which showed that of 73,000 students measured, it was found that 6.5 % having under 70 in IQ! Rather shocking information’s.

    But our second problem is that by the pharmacies we can’t get any Iodine, so we only can get it as Iodized salt bought in supermarkets, or by the 0.125 mg in some of the daily vitamin pills. Because furthermore comes that the laws just don’t allow private persons to from other countries buy heathy equipment, that is even buying simple thing like vitamins or minerals. Repeating, we are not even allowed from another country to for example order 100 grams of the C vitamin! I discovered this when 3 years ago I by Amazon ordered Progesterone crème, as Progesterone doesn’t exist in Thailand. But besides the Iodine and Progesterone, among other we also are missing the Niacinamid (one of the B3), the Folic Acid (B9), or K2 and K3, (K1 only exist for use in hospitals), and much more. But the doctors and the pharmacies don’t know anything about different vitamins and minerals, so nothing is done.

    But to finish my book recommendation, as the first conclusion it must be that for persons living in Thailand we will have to get the Iodine by buying Seaweed, which I have got quit a couple of times, and the second conclusion is that it’s an excellent book.
