About the Author
Kristen M. Miller grew up in the mountains of Vermont but always dreamed of the sea. In her mid-20s she and her husband quit their jobs, sold their stuff, and, with little sailing experience, boarded their 27' sailboat and set sail for the Caribbean. After three years at sea, they returned stateside but were determined to keep on living on island time. Kristen continues to live on a boat with her family and writes for sailing magazines, e-zines, and a personal blog.

Enjoyed the Book

I would love to live on Island time.Unlike some of the reviewers, I really enjoyed the book. It shows you how to live on island time even in a big city. While their island hopping lifestyle was simple and unhurried, there was plenty of work involved in caring for their sailboat, fetching water, grocery shopping, cooking, doing laundry and navigating the boat through all kinds of weather. They met lots of interesting people, from other boaters to native islanders. When after three years they returned to the states, it was truly reverse culture shock. The book contained some good advice on how to simplify your lifestyle. and build stronger relationships. The cover and title title first drew me in.

Disappointing. self help book in the guise of travel memoir.

I really wish that I could recommend this book. I have a lot of respect for the courage it takes to sail the seas on a small sailboat, but as a travel memoir, this is a tedious read. Everytime I started to get interested in the storyline the author drifted off into pages of 'self help'. Maybe she's trying to set herself up for the self help lecture circuit? I read about half then gave up.
