I didn’t like this book at all, mainly because it was completely amateurish. It makes several statements like “studies show,” but at no point does it go any further actually to explain the studies or to elaborate and at no point is anything referenced.

Near the start of this incredibly short book, beginners to HIIT are recommended to carry out 45 seconds of activity followed by 15 seconds of rest. Given that a 30/30 split is considered extremely advanced, I wonder why the author is suggesting a 45/15 for novices? After this I gave up believing anything the author had to say because it was immediately clear to me that this was an outsourced book, probably paying $30 to the author who spent a couple of hours putting in the research and work – Indeed, the page length of 30 pages should have been all I needed to know and I’ll always check that in future.

Then we are advised to do sit ups. Really, sit ups in a HIIT workout? How are sit ups anything near intense enough for HIIT? Very bizarre.

The explanation on carrying out jump squats was truly incredible, which somehow involved using only one foot. And also crunches and on the spot marching are advised, which are likewise not nearly intense enough for HIIT.

The rest of the book is basically a rigid list of exercises with no guidance on adapting to your fitness level or how to progress, or even what to do. The treadmill section was funny, where the author assumes that RPE (rate of perceived exertion) will be the same for everybody at any given intensity, despite RPE being a subjective measure of exertion – Incredible, or it would have been if I wasn’t already sure the author had no business writing a book on this topic.

There is nothing included on the classic HIIT exercises such as hill sprints, skipping, rowing or even cycling.

Finally, much of this tiny book is occupied on promoting some other book by the, um, author. Do yourselves a favor and skip this for one of the better HIIT books.

I'm laughing at all the 5 star reviews. Clearly none of them have actually read this short leaflet. Notice how they've nearly all been left on the same day in clumps - Me sniffs some fraud. As for the book; it's terrible and I learned nothing. I highly doubt the 'author' paid much for his ghost writer who spent ten minutes researching. Stay clear.
